Our Sod Rate — Published, Not Whispered

Every Blue Collar Q sod quote uses the same rate, in writing, before work starts: $1.25 per square foot installed. A standard Florida pallet covers about 450 square feet, so the math is simple:

450 sq ft · 1 pallet
Typical front-yard strip or dead patch replacement
$562.50
2,000 sq ft · ≈ 4.5 pallets
Small Cape Coral front yard
$2,500
4,500 sq ft · 10 pallets
Standard full front + back replacement
$5,625
9,000 sq ft · 20 pallets
Large / corner / triple-lot property
$11,250

Same rate for St. Augustine, Bahia, and Zoysia. Your exact square footage comes from a free on-site measurement — for repairs smaller than a pallet, it's usually cheaper to fold the work into a landscaping visit, so ask when you call.

What $1.25/Sq Ft Actually Buys

Included in the rate

Sod-cut removal and haul-away of the old turf
Grade check and soil prep — low spots filled so water can't pond
Fresh pallets delivered and laid the same day (never day-old sod)
Staggered brick-pattern install, edges cut clean to beds and hardscape
Rolled for root-to-soil contact + first-watering walkthrough

Quoted separately (never snuck in)

Irrigation repairs or new zones — quoted separately before we start
Major regrading, fill dirt, or drainage work (French drains, swales)
Stump grinding or root removal under the lawn area

The removal step is the one most fly-by-night installers skip. Sod laid over old dying turf never roots properly — it looks fine for a month, then fails through the summer. Cutting out the old grass and fixing the grade is built into our rate because skipping it just moves the cost to next year.

St. Augustine, Bahia, or Zoysia — Same Rate, Different Lawn

St. Augustine ‘Floratam’is the SW Florida default for a reason: it thrives in our heat, tolerates the alkaline sandy soil under most Cape Coral and Fort Myers lots, and fills in dense enough to crowd out weeds. It needs working irrigation and it's the variety chinch bugs love — plan on a real pest program.

Bahia is the drought workhorse — the right call for big lots, unirrigated side yards, and properties on wells where watering restrictions bite. Coarser look, tall summer seed heads, nearly indestructible.

Zoysia ‘Empire’ is the premium carpet: fine blades, dense feel underfoot, better shade tolerance than Floratam. It establishes slower, so budget extra patience the first season.

Sod Pricing & Installation — FAQ

How much does sod installation cost in Cape Coral and Fort Myers?

Our published rate is $1.25 per square foot installed. That includes removing the old grass, prepping and leveling the soil, and laying fresh sod the day it's delivered. One pallet covers about 450 square feet, so a pallet installed is $562.50 and a typical 4,500 sq ft lawn replacement is $5,625. Irrigation repairs and major grading are itemized separately on your written quote.

How many pallets of sod do I need?

Divide your lawn's square footage by 450 — that's the coverage of one standard Florida pallet. A 2,000 sq ft front yard needs about 4.5 pallets; a 9,000 sq ft full property needs about 20. We measure exactly during the free property walk so you're not paying for a pallet you don't need.

Which sod type should I choose — St. Augustine, Bahia, or Zoysia?

St. Augustine (usually Floratam) is the SW Florida default: dense, heat-tolerant, and happy in our alkaline sandy soil as long as it gets irrigation. Bahia is the low-water workhorse for big lots and unirrigated areas. Zoysia gives the tightest, most premium look but establishes slower. We install all three at the same $1.25/sq ft rate and will tell you honestly which one fits your yard, shade, and watering setup.

Can you install sod during the summer rainy season?

Yes — summer is actually a strong window in SW Florida because daily rain does much of the establishment watering for you. The trade-off is you must stay on top of fungus watch with all that moisture. October through May installs need a stricter 2–3×-per-day watering schedule for the first two weeks. We install year-round and program your irrigation controller for the establishment schedule before we leave.

Will new sod fix a lawn that died from chinch bugs or grubs?

Only if the infestation is dealt with first. New sod laid over an active chinch bug or grub problem dies the same way the old lawn did — usually within a season. We check for live pest activity during the property walk, and if we find it we'll tell you to have a licensed pest control applicator treat the lawn before we schedule the install.
