What Travertine Actually Costs Here (2026)
Travertine quotes in SW Florida run anywhere from $12 to $30+ per square foot because most contractors bundle the stone markup into one opaque number. We split it the way the job actually works — published workmanship rate, stone itemized by grade:
Add it up and most travertine decks land between $12 and $16 per square foot installed all-in. $2,500 project minimum. Your exact number comes from a free on-site measurement with stone samples in hand.
Worked Examples, Real Math
The classic SW Florida pool deck. Select-grade ivory in the same pattern prices toward $12,800.
Sound slab required. See the no-demo overlay guide below for when this works and when it doesn't.
Small projects price at the same rates but never below the $2,500 project minimum.
The Four Choices That Set Your Price
Grade, finish, pattern, and color are the whole decision tree — everything else (base prep, slope, coping transitions) is our job at the published rate.
Grade: Premium/Select vs Commercial
Select-grade stone is color-consistent with tight filled voids; commercial grade runs cheaper with more color variation and open pitting. Both are real travertine — we bring samples of both to the property walk so you pick with your eyes, not a brochure.
Finish: Tumbled vs Honed
Tumbled edges and a matte surface are the pool-deck default — genuinely slip-conscious when wet. Honed-and-filled reads more formal and suits covered lanais and entries better than open pool decks.
Pattern: French (Versailles) vs Running Bond
The 4-size French pattern is the look most people picture on a Naples pool deck — it prices at the $9 complex-layout rate. Single-size running bond or stacked layouts stay at $8.
Color: Ivory, Silver, Walnut, Noce
Ivory and silver dominate SW Florida pool decks because they stay the coolest and match the coastal palette. Walnut and noce hide dirt and leaf stains better under oak canopy.
Why Travertine Owns the SW Florida Pool Deck
The July test settles it: cross a gray concrete paver deck barefoot at 2pm, then cross ivory travertine. Light natural stone reflects heat instead of banking it, stays matte instead of glaring, and the tumbled surface keeps its grip when the kids cannonball water across it. That's why nearly every high-end pool deck from Cape Coral's canal lots to Gulf Harbour runs travertine.
Under the stone, it's still a SW Florida hardscape job: excavation to depth, base rock compacted in lifts for sandy fill, slope engineered away from both the pool shell and the house — and on canal lots, away from the seawall. Travertine on a bad base fails exactly like pavers on a bad base, just more expensively. The parts you can't see are the parts we don't skip.

Travertine Pricing & Installation — FAQ
How much does a travertine pool deck cost in Fort Myers or Cape Coral?
Most travertine pool decks we build land between $12 and $16 per square foot installed, all-in. The math is published: our install workmanship rate is $8 per square foot ($9 for the French pattern and other complex layouts), and the stone itself is itemized at $4–$7 per square foot depending on grade and thickness. An 800 sq ft French-pattern deck in mid-grade tumbled ivory runs about $11,600. Every quote is written and itemized before work starts.
Is travertine really cooler than concrete pavers?
Yes, noticeably. Light-colored travertine reflects more heat and holds less of it than dense concrete pavers, which is why it owns the SW Florida pool deck market — you can cross an ivory travertine deck barefoot in July when a gray concrete paver deck would have you sprinting. It's a real difference, not marketing, though no surface stays truly cold in full August sun.
Does travertine hold up around a saltwater pool?
Travertine handles salt splash-out well and that's most of what a saltwater-pool deck sees — it's the same stone used on decks all over Cape Coral and Fort Myers canal homes. What actually damages it is acid: harsh acidic cleaners etch the surface. Rinse-downs and pH-neutral cleaners keep it looking right, and a penetrating sealer adds stain protection without changing the matte finish.
Can you install travertine over my existing concrete pool deck?
Often, yes — if the slab is structurally sound with correct slope, we set travertine directly over it and you skip the demolition line entirely. That's usually the cheapest path to a stone deck. If the slab is cracked, heaving, or pitched toward the pool or house, an overlay just locks the problem under expensive stone, so we tell you before quoting. Our travertine overlay guide covers exactly when it works.
Travertine or concrete pavers — which should I pick?
Pavers win on budget and color control; travertine wins on heat, looks, and resale impression. On a pool deck where bare feet and July sun meet, we usually point people to travertine if the budget covers the roughly $4–$7/sq ft material difference. On driveways, concrete pavers are the better tool. Our honest travertine-vs-pavers comparison breaks down every trade-off for Florida conditions.
Do I need a permit for a travertine pool deck in Lee County?
Replacing or overlaying the deck surface around an existing pool generally doesn't trigger the same permitting as new driveway or structural work, but anything touching the pool barrier, drainage, or setbacks can. We check your parcel's requirements — City of Cape Coral, City of Fort Myers, or unincorporated Lee County — and handle whatever paperwork applies as part of the job.
