Seabreeze Bamboo, Delivered and Planted in SW Florida

Fast-growing and clumping, Seabreeze bamboo does well in Southwest Florida and makes a tall living screen or windbreak. Unlike running bamboos, it grows in a clump that widens slowly instead of sending runners across the yard. We deliver and plant 7, 15 and 25 gallon plants.

Where Bamboo Seabreeze works in a SW Florida yard

Seabreeze bamboo fills tall, narrow spaces: a single row along a fence or property line, a screen that blocks a neighbor's second story, or a windbreak on an exposed lot. Plan on room for the clump to widen, and keep it a few feet back from walls and pool decks, because it drops a lot of leaves.

Coontie, bromeliads or a low hedge in front hide the bare lower culms.

  • Tall privacy screen
  • Windbreak
  • Fence-line screening
  • Pool and patio backdrop

How our crew plants it

Space plants 5 to 8 ft apart for a screen. Our crew digs each hole twice as wide as the pot and no deeper, sets the top of the root ball level with the soil, backfills with native soil, and finishes with watering and cleanup.

Mulch 3 inches. New bamboo drinks heavily, so use the extra watering Lee and Collier allow for new plantings.

Care after planting

  • Water new bamboo deeply and often, then rely on rain and your assigned days; dry spells in spring slow growth and curl the leaves.
  • Feed two or three times a year with a slow-release fertilizer, outside the June 1 to September 30 nitrogen and phosphorus ban in Lee County, Naples and Marco Island.
  • Cut dead and weak culms at ground level each year to keep the clump open, and leave fallen leaves as mulch.
  • Trim the lowest branches if you want to show off the culms.

What to watch for

  • It sheds a lot of leaves, which clog pool skimmers and gutters, so keep it back from the pool and the roofline.
  • The clump keeps widening every year and cannot be trimmed back like a hedge, so give it room from the start.

Bamboo Seabreeze questions we hear

How fast does Seabreeze bamboo grow in Florida?+

Very fast. After a season of rooting in, it can add several feet a year and sends up new culms in the rainy season. Regular water sets the pace. If you want height right away, the 15 and 25 gallon plants give you more than the 7 gallon.

Does Seabreeze bamboo spread like running bamboo?+

No. It is a clumping bamboo, so it widens slowly from the center rather than sending runners across the yard. The clump still gets wider every year, so plan on a base of 6 to 10 ft over time.

How far apart do you plant Seabreeze bamboo for privacy?+

Plant 5 to 8 ft apart. Closer spacing makes a solid wall sooner, while wider spacing needs fewer plants. Send us the length of the fence line and the height you want, and we text back a planted price.
